What is online tutoring?
Online tutoring is like normal tutoring, only via screen. Using a computer, laptop or smart phone, your child will be able to interact with their tutor like they can in a classroom, with the added benefits of new educational technology.
New technology
Gone are the days of dodgy internet connections and fuzzy webcams. Now, the majority of our online tutors use Skype to make reliable, high definition video calls. Skype also has an instant chat feature, which allows tutors to send useful links, exam papers, essay comments, work sheets, and other documents to support your child’s learning. (If you live in a country that does not have Skype, we also use We Chat and Botim).
Online tutoring involves far more than video calls, however. These days, there is a vast array of software which our tutors use. Virtual whiteboards are invaluable to our online maths tutors, who write out equations and formulas for their students just as they would in real life. Screen sharing technology means pupils can follow lessons with ease and interactive software means there is never a dull moment. Students feel like they are in a real classroom while enjoying the comfort of their own home.
Is online tutoring right for my child?
Many parents have reservations about online tutoring. Can it really be as effective as face-to-face teaching? Can tutors and students really build rapport though screen? Is the technology good enough to make it worthwhile?
The answer to all these questions is: yes.
What are the benefits?
While the benefits of face-to-face tuition are indisputable, children of all ages can enjoy online tuition. Whether you are looking for a GCSE physics tutor, an A Level English tutor or someone to prepare your child for the 11+ exam, do not underestimate the power of virtual learning.
Many parents find online tuition less intrusive and disruptive to family life, and children often feel more relaxed when they are taught over the internet. Convenience is another major advantage. Regardless of where you live, you can have access to all our most talented tutors. Moreover, whether your child is at home, at school, or on holiday, they will always have a wealth of online resources at their fingertips.
Online and face-to-face
Online tutoring can also complement real life lessons. During the holiday period, for example, or in exam season when time is precious, virtual teaching sessions could give your child the extra help they need to flourish.
In short, if you think your child would benefit from some extra support, online tutoring is a convenient, stress-free way to boost their confidence, knowledge, and academic performance.
Our online tutors
Our online tutors are all excellent communicators with a passion for their subject. Used to teaching via screen, they combine knowledge and enthusiasm with technological skill. Their lessons are tailor made to suit their individual pupils and, crucially, they are always engaging and interactive. When it comes to learning – particularly virtual learning – we know that listening and taking notes is not enough. Children need to be asking questions, completing activities and starting to think beyond the realms of the syllabus.
Qualifications
Our large team of online tutors all have fantastic degrees and many years of experience. Some are qualified teachers working at prestigious private schools, others are first class Oxbridge graduates, while a large section are full time private tutors. All are determined to see their students succeed and are attentive to the unique needs and ambitions of those they teach. Moreover, they are very familiar with educational software and know which pieces of tech work best for different age groups.
Recruitment process
We have a rigorous recruitment process and ask anyone applying to be a tutor with us to provide proof of their qualifications, details of their experience, at least two references and an up-to-date DBS certificate. To ensure we only hire the most talented tutors, we then interview candidates in person. Given the number of online tutors now advertising their services, at Hampstead and Frognal Tutors we are more determined than ever to maintain our high standards.
Subjects and exam boards we cover
Our online tutors cover all exam boards, including OCR, AQA and Edexcel. They also have experience preparing students for 11+ and 13+ entrance examinations.
Comments from parents who have been impressed by online tuition:
“Our son wanted to go to a Boarding School in the UK and as we are based in China we needed the help from UK based tutors to support our son. Hampstead & Frognal Tutors were very knowledgable about the admissions for 13+ and they provided excellent tutors who knew how to prepare for Common entrance and scholarships for Eton and Harrow. We gained valuable insight into the expected level especially for the math, English and Sciences. Thank you so much for your amazing service. We will contact you again for GCSEs I’m sure.”

What is the goal of online tutoring?
Many children and teenagers find certain subjects challenging, and feel anxious as exam season approaches. Our online tutors could give your child the understanding they need to thrive academically, and the confidence they need to enjoy their time at school.
Our tutors know that every child is different and learns in a unique way. At Hampstead and Frognal Tutors, therefore, we design our lessons to meet the requirements and aspirations of individual students. In this way, your child can overcome any academic difficulties they are experiencing. Similarly, if your child is striving for top grades, or aiming for an Oxbridge offer, our online tutors can help them attain their goals.
We have a long history of helping students achieve excellent exam results. More importantly, however, they leave our lessons filled with enthusiasm and drive.
