Our A Level Science Tutors
At A Level, students explore Chemistry, Biology and Physics in greater depth than at GCSE. Pupils are introduced to exciting new theories, unfamiliar experiments and fresh scientific issues. Fascinating as they are, the A Level science courses are designed to challenge pupils, and teenagers often feel they would benefit from some extra help. Our A Level Science tutors give students the support they need to shine in their examinations. Whether your child is a budding medic or an anxious physicist, our tutors will unlock their academic potential.
All of our A Level Science tutors have years of experience and outstanding Science degrees. Adept at imparting their knowledge and enthusiasm, they have seen hundreds of students flourish under their expert guidance. Our extensive and diverse team consists of first class Oxbridge graduates, full time professional tutors and qualified teachers who have taught at leading independent schools. All pride themselves on the quality of their tuition, and are committed to seeing young people succeed.
At Hampstead and Frognal Tutors, we are determined to find the best tutors for our clients. When applying to teach with us, therefore, candidates must provide details and proof of their qualifications, along with two references. To ensure they meet our high standards, we also interview all of our tutors in person, and require them to own an up-to-date DBS certificate.
How our Tutors Teach Science
A Level Science tests a range of different skills. Students must grasp complex theories, perform mathematical calculations, carry out practical experiments and grapple with abstract concepts. Our private tutors give their students the scientific grounding they need to excel. Working outwards from core ideas, they help teenagers get to grips with the entire Science syllabus. They will also identify topics your child finds difficult and home in on problem areas. Unlike school lessons, therefore, our tuition sessions are always crafted to suit the requirements of individual pupils.
In order to perform well at A Level, students must master exam technique. Our Science tutors are very familiar with the different exam boards and ensure all of their pupils know how to approach the question papers. Whether your child struggles with time management or revision strategies, we can help. Our tutors do more than enhance exam performance, however. Passionate about the subjects they teach, they seek to instil a life-long love of Science in their pupils. Sixth Form is a time for students to deepen their academic interests and to think about further study, and our tutors are here to enthuse and guide them.
Although we are predominantly based in London, our private tutors also teach via Skype. Online lessons can be a convenient alternative to face-to-face tuition, and we currently help hundreds of families across the globe.

Testimonial
This is just a quick note to say that your Chemistry Tutor George is brilliant. He has given our son Amar such a boost that he is now hitting 80% rather than 50% which was where he was at before George came and helped out. We have booked extra lessons for the Easter Holidays and Amar’s predicted grade is now an A.

Exam Boards we Cover
Our A Level tutors cover all exam boards, including OCR, AQA and Edexcel. Listed below are key aspects of the Chemistry, Biology and Physics syllabi.
Chemistry:
OCR, AQA and Edexcel divide Chemistry into three main sections:
- Physical Chemistry (e.g atomic structure, bonding, kinetics, thermodynamics, energetics, equilibrium, acids and bases).
- Organic Chemistry (e.g alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, amines, polymers, DNA, chromatography, aromatic chemistry).
- Inorganic Chemistry. (e.g the halogens, the alkaline earth metals, transition metals, Period 3 elements).
OCR, AQA and Edexcel also assess students practical skills. Regardless of the exam board, all students sit three written papers.
Biology:
OCR, AQA and Edexcel assess students’ theoretical understanding and practical skill.
- All three exam boards cover the following topics: Biological Molecules, Cells, Genetics and Evolution, Disease, Organisms and their Environments, and Immunity and Infection. They also have modules dedicated to the development of practical skills.
- Regardless of the exam board, all students sit three written papers.
Physics:
OCR, AQA and Edexcel ask students to display strong theoretical understanding and practical skill.
- All of the exam boards cover Forces and motion, Electron, waves and photons, Astrophysics, Particle physics, Medical physics and Thermodynamics. Students also sit exams assessing their practical skills and ability to analyse data.
- Regardless of the exam board, all students sit three written papers.
Is tuition right for your child?
A Levels are some of the most important exams that students sit, and are a big step up from GCSEs. How your child performs will determine where they go to university, and which subject they will study. It is natural, therefore, for teenagers and parents to feel apprehensive. At Hampstead and Frognal Tutors, however, we want to make Sixth Form as stress-free and fulfilling as possible.
Our world-class tutors equip pupils with the knowledge and self-belief they need to excel in the final stage of their school careers. Their care, patience and enthusiasm is unrivalled, and together they have placed hundreds of students on the road to success.
