What is the Cambridge Pre-U?
The Cambridge Pre-U is a school leaving qualification which some sixth formers choose instead of A Levels. Favoured by independent schools, the qualification is run by Cambridge Assessment International Education and is designed to promote independent and self-directed learning. Our Cambridge Pre-U Tutors are here to guide teenagers through the assessment process – and to prepare them better for university.
There are 25 principal subjects available. These range from English Literature to languages and social sciences. Students can take up to four subjects during the two year course, and they have the option to study for other school qualifications alongside the Cambridge Pre-U.
In 2019, Cambridge Assessment International Education announced that it will administer the Cambridge Pre-U qualification for the final time in 2023.
Our Cambridge Pre-U Tutors
Our Cambridge Pre-U Tutors deliver bespoke study programmes to help teenagers excel in this important stage of their school careers. Every lesson is adjusted to suit individual pupils — something which is impossible to achieve in the school classroom. Our tutors also focus on tricky topics to ensure students can tackle all exam problems with confidence.
It is not just about doing well in assessments, however. Sixth form is a time for teenagers to explore their interests and the Cambridge Pre-U encourages students to be curious. The course was developed with university-style education in mind, and our tutors are keen to stretch their pupils, whether it is through lively discussions, further reading or challenging essay questions.
Our tutor team consists of a range of subject specialists who know the Pre-U syllabus inside-out. While many have taught at leading independent schools, others hold first class degrees from Oxford and Cambridge. We recruit tutors in much the same was as schools hire teachers. Identity checks, CV checks, DBS checks and references are all undertaken before a new tutor is assigned.
Online tuition
Our tutors can teach in person or online, using a range of digital tools.
Subjects we Cover
Cambridge Pre-U students can choose from 25 principal subjects, including Russian, Mandarin and Art History, as well as core subjects such as Mathematics and English Literature. Whatever subjects your child has chosen, we will endeavour to find the best match for them.
Is tuition right for your child?
The transition from Year 11 to sixth form can be daunting for students and the Cambridge Pre-U qualification is significantly more demanding than GCSE exams. The course requires in-depth understanding of difficult topics and concepts.
If your child would benefit from focused support – or simply needs a confidence boost before stepping into the exam hall – one-to-one tuition is an option to consider. Our tutors have the knowledge, passion and patience to make a real difference at this critical point in teenagers’ school lives.
