There are a number of different ways to study Science at GCSE level. Year 11’s will have chosen to take Single, Double (sometimes referred to as combined Science) or Triple Science, with Triple Science being the most demanding. Our tutors are experienced at preparing pupils for all types of qualification. They are also familiar with all the GCSE exam boards, including OCR, AQA and Edexcel. This page is dedicated to the Double Science award where students receive an aware worth two GCSEs. For example if the student achieves the top grade in double science they will have (9-9) on their certificate.
Those students taking the individual science subjects are well advised to head over to our pages and revision topics GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics.
The different GCSE science syllabi are set out below.
Students either study the AQA Trilogy syllabus or the AQA Synergy syllabus. Both syllabi lead to a Combined Science double award but differ in approach. Trilogy divides content into Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, offering a traditional, subject-specific structure ideal for students pursuing STEM subjects at A-level. Synergy integrates topics across thematic areas, focusing on the connections between disciplines and their real-world applications, making it suitable for students who enjoy multidisciplinary learning. Trilogy has six shorter exams, while Synergy has four longer ones. Both pathways provide a solid science foundation, and our tutors are equipped to help students excel in either syllabus.
The GCSE Science AQA Trilogy course is a popular and comprehensive option for students studying combined science. This syllabus provides a strong foundation in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics while awarding students two GCSE grades, making it ideal for those who want a broad understanding of science without committing to separate sciences.
The AQA Trilogy course is ideal for students who wish to keep their science studies broad and balanced while gaining a thorough grounding in all three disciplines. Its structured approach ensures students develop both theoretical understanding and practical expertise, preparing them for A-levels or vocational qualifications.
Our tutors are well-versed in the AQA Trilogy syllabus and specialise in creating personalised learning plans. Whether your child needs help with challenging topics or aims to maximise their grades, our tailored lessons ensure they approach their exams with confidence and a strong understanding of the material.
The GCSE Science 8465 AQA Synergy course offers a unique, integrated approach to studying science. Instead of dividing the curriculum into separate Biology, Chemistry, and Physics subjects, this combined science course weaves key concepts from all three disciplines into cohesive themes. This makes it particularly engaging for students who prefer to see the interconnectedness of scientific principles and how they apply to real-world contexts.
The AQA Synergy course is designed for students who thrive on seeing the bigger picture and enjoy exploring how different scientific disciplines interact. It is particularly well-suited to students with an interest in environmental science, engineering, or multidisciplinary studies.
Our tutors are highly experienced in the AQA Synergy syllabus and focus on helping students develop a deep understanding of core concepts while mastering effective exam techniques. Whether your child needs help with tricky topics or wants to achieve top grades, we tailor our lessons to inspire confidence and success.
The Edexcel GCSE Combined Science (Double Award) provides students with a broad and balanced education in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Designed to develop scientific knowledge and practical skills, this course awards two GCSEs, making it an ideal choice for students who want a comprehensive understanding of science without specialising in separate subjects.
The Edexcel Combined Science syllabus is well-structured and accessible, offering a solid grounding in scientific principles and fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It is particularly suited to students who wish to keep their options open for A-levels or vocational qualifications.
Our tutors specialise in delivering tailored support for Edexcel Combined Science, ensuring students build confidence, master challenging topics, and excel in their exams.
The OCR GCSE Science A syllabus, also known as the Gateway Science Suite, is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. It emphasizes the application of scientific concepts in real-world contexts and encourages critical thinking and problem-solving.
Key Features:
The OCR GCSE Science B syllabus, or the Twenty First Century Science Suite, takes a more thematic approach, connecting scientific principles to contemporary issues and global challenges. This syllabus is particularly engaging for students interested in understanding how science interacts with modern society.
Key Features:
Both the Gateway (Science A) and Twenty First Century (Science B) suites aim to equip students with a solid understanding of scientific principles, but their focus differs slightly. Science A is better suited for students who prefer a structured, traditional approach, while Science B appeals to those interested in contemporary, thematic studies. Our experienced tutors are adept at tailoring lessons to meet the demands of either syllabus, ensuring your child excels and gains confidence in their scientific abilities.
